Tommy, a little boy with bright eyes and a hopeful smile, sits by the window, his gaze fixed on the driveway. His small hands rest on his knees, tapping a gentle rhythm of anticipation. "Mom, when will Dad be home?" he asks, his voice filled with a mix of excitement and impatience.
Sarah, Tommy's mother, stands in the kitchen, her hands busy preparing dinner. She glances at the clock, a slight furrow of worry on her brow. "He should be here soon, sweetheart. Maybe he's caught up in traffic," she reassures, though her eyes betray a flicker of concern.
Tommy turns from the window, his hope undiminished. "I have a drawing for him," he says, holding up a colorful picture of a family smiling under a rainbow. Sarah smiles gently, walking over to give him a reassuring hug. "He'll love it, Tommy. It's beautiful," she says, smoothing his hair.
Tommy jumps up, excitement bubbling over as he rushes to the door. The soft click of the door opening is followed by a familiar, comforting presence stepping inside. John, Tommy's father, stands there, a tired but loving smile on his face. "Dad!" Tommy exclaims, launching himself into his father's arms.
John lifts Tommy high into the air, their shared laughter echoing around the room. "Sorry I'm late, buddy. I missed you," he says, setting Tommy down gently. "I missed you too, Dad!" replies Tommy, handing him the drawing with pride.
Sarah watches them with a smile, feeling the warmth of her family around her. John holds up the drawing, his eyes shining with pride. "This is going on the fridge," he declares, and Tommy beams with joy. As they settle in for dinner, the sense of togetherness fills the room, a reminder of the love that binds them all.
