Wally the Wiggly Worm wiggled his way around a dewdrop-laden leaf, his bright smile mirroring the cheerful garden. "What a beautiful morning to explore! There's so much to see and do!" Sunlight glittered on his smooth, pink body as he squirmed past a cluster of giggling ladybugs.
Bella the Butterfly, with wings shimmering in the sunlight, called out, "Come join us, Wally! It's time for storytime!" Leo the Ladybug and Sammy the Snail nestled together, their faces bright with anticipation. Wally paused, excitement bubbling inside him.
Wally squirmed closer, twisting and turning with energy. "I can't wait to hear the stories, but I just want to move!" His friends exchanged amused glances as he wriggled in place, grass bending beneath his restless body.
Mr. Toad read aloud, "Once upon a time, in a magical forest..." But Wally was too busy twisting this way and that, missing the magical beginning. Leo leaned in, a gentle frown on his tiny face.
"Wally, you’re missing the story! You need to listen!" Wally replied, "I want to wiggle! I can’t help it." The laughter of his friends faded as he inched further from the circle, the garden suddenly feeling much quieter.
Wally watched from behind a daisy, feeling lonely as the sound of laughter and storytime drifted his way. "I wish I could enjoy the story with my friends," he muttered, his wiggles slowing to a thoughtful pause.
Ms. Caterpillar smiled kindly. "What’s wrong, Wally?" Wally looked up and replied, "I’m missing out on the fun because I can’t sit still!" The garden seemed to hold its breath, waiting for her answer.
"Sometimes, it’s good to wiggle, but there’s also a time to listen," she said. "Why not try to stay calm for just a little while? You might enjoy the story!" Wally thought for a moment, hope brightening his eyes.
"Okay, I’ll try!" He whispered, "I can do this!" His friends looked up, smiles spreading as they made space for him in the circle.
"And then the brave little rabbit discovered a hidden treasure..." Wally's eyes widened with wonder, feeling the magic of the story for the first time.
"This is so much fun!" he thought, happiness glowing inside him. The images of the treasure sparkled in his imagination, richer than anything his wiggling had shown him.
"That was amazing! Thank you, Mr. Toad!" Wally exclaimed, pride and excitement bubbling over. Mr. Toad smiled, closing his book with a satisfied nod.
"You did it, Wally! You listened so well!" Wally beamed, basking in the warmth of belonging and accomplishment.
"I learned that there’s a time to wiggle and a time to listen," he said. "I can wiggle when it’s time to play, but I can also sit still to enjoy stories with my friends!" Nods and smiles circle the group.
Wally found joy in both wiggling and listening, making every moment with his friends special. Laughter echoed under the gentle sun, a melody of friendship and fun.
"Thank you for helping me learn!" Wally said, giving Ms. Caterpillar a grateful hug. She smiled proudly, watching her young friend blossom.
Wally sat front and center, ready for another adventure, now known as the garden’s best listener and the happiest worm of all.
