Lila sat cross-legged on the carpet, her eyes fixed on the colorful illustrations of a picture book. Nearby, her mother, Mrs. Thompson, rested comfortably in an armchair, her hand gently caressing her round belly.
"Mom, how will I know when my baby brother is here?" Lila asked, her voice filled with curiosity.
"You'll hear him cry for the first time, and that's how you'll know," Mrs. Thompson replied with a warm smile.
Lila wandered around the room, her fingers brushing against the soft edges of the crib. She imagined the tiny hands that would soon curl around her finger.
"What does it feel like, having a baby inside?" she wondered aloud.
Her mother chuckled softly, "It feels like little flutters at first, and then stronger kicks as he grows," Mrs. Thompson explained, guiding Lila's hand to feel a gentle nudge.
Lila sat at the table, a glass of milk in front of her, as Mrs. Thompson placed a warm cookie on her plate.
"How does the baby eat, Mom?" Lila asked, taking a bite of the cookie.
"The baby gets food through the umbilical cord, which is like a special tube connecting us," Mrs. Thompson explained, her eyes twinkling with affection.
Lila gazed up at the ceiling, her mind filled with dreams of the days to come. She imagined cuddling with her little brother, sharing secrets and laughter.
"Will he be my best friend, Mom?" Lila asked, her voice a whisper in the twilight.
"He will be your very special friend," Mrs. Thompson assured her, tucking the blanket around her. "And you'll teach him all the wonderful things you know."
Lila bounded down the stairs, her heart leaping with excitement. Today was special, for today was the day she would meet her baby brother.
"Are you ready to be a big sister, Lila?" Mrs. Thompson asked, her eyes sparkling as she held Lila's hand.
"Yes, I can't wait!" Lila exclaimed, her face lighting up with joy.
Lila stood beside her mother's bed, her eyes wide as she gazed at the tiny bundle murmured, her voice filled with emotion. "Our little family is complete."in Mrs. Thompson's arms. Her heart swelled with love and awe. "Hello, baby brother," she whispered, reaching out to touch his tiny hand. "He's finally here," Mrs. Thompson
