Eli, a six-year-old boy with sparkling eyes, hops excitedly from one foot to the other at the edge of the splash pad. His blue swimsuit flashes in the sun, and his small hands tug at the straps of his backpack. He wears a pair of red sandals, and, curiously, fuzzy white socks peek out from underneath. The sky above is a clear blue, promising endless fun.
Eli dashes headlong into the spray, his sandals slapping against the wet pavement. Water soaks his hair and trickles down his cheeks, but he doesn’t mind—he’s already shrieking with laughter. "This is the best day ever!" he calls out, spinning beneath a stream of water that soaks him from head to toe. He doesn’t notice the way his socks darken or cling to his ankles.
Eli leaps over a puddle and races to the edge of the pad, ready for a snack. He plops down on a bright orange towel, his sandals dripping. As he bends to remove them, he suddenly stops, puzzled by a squishy feeling against his feet. "Oh… my socks!" he exclaims, pulling off his sandals to reveal the thoroughly soaked, floppy socks clinging to his toes.

Eli looks at his socks in surprise, then bursts out laughing. "I was having so much fun, I forgot to take them off!" he says, grinning sheepishly. He wrings out his socks, water splattering onto the towel, and gives a silly wiggle of his toes.

Eli munches on crackers, his cheeks flushed with happiness. "Next time, I’ll remember—no socks in the splash pad. But it was still awesome!" he says, and his friends nod in agreement. The day stretches ahead, full of more play and new adventures.

Eli looks back at the splash pad, a big smile on his face. "I’ll always remember the day my socks went swimming too," he says softly, heading home with a heart full of summer joy and a funny story to tell.
