Lucy, a bright-eyed girl with bouncing curls, clings to her teddy bear. She knows today is the day her daddy leaves for work again. Her heart feels heavy, even as the room glows with warm golden light.
Daddy, dressed in his pilot’s uniform, kneels beside her, smoothing her hair gently.
"I'll fly high in the sky, but I'll think of you every mile. When I’m away, remember my love—it's as big as the sun and your smile!"
"Daddy, don’t go, I’ll miss you so. When you’re away, my heart feels low," Lucy whispers, her small hand waving as Daddy gives her one last hug.
"I love you, my star. I won’t be far. Look up at the sky—I’ll wave from afar!"
She feels a big ache in her chest, missing Daddy already. A tear rolls down her cheek as she hugs her teddy tighter. The world outside seems big, and she feels so small.
"I’ll make pictures for Daddy to take! He can look at them each time he wakes," she sings, her sadness melting away as she colors with bright, happy strokes. She sticks a smiling sun and a little girl waving up high. Her giggle fills the room like a tinkling bell.
"Now Daddy will smile, both near and far, with my love tucked in, wherever you are!" Lucy chants, clapping her hands. She feels a happy flutter in her belly, knowing her pictures will make Daddy smile.
"Goodnight, Daddy, wherever you fly. I’ll look at the moon and wave to the sky," she whispers, blowing a kiss into the night. The stars seem to twinkle just for her, and she feels close to Daddy even though he’s far away.
"I saw your pictures every day, and they made the clouds drift far away! My heart felt light, my smile so wide, because my Lucy’s love was by my side," Daddy says, giving her the warmest hug.
Lucy grins, knowing that no matter how far Daddy flies, love finds a way to always say hi.
