Lila, a curious little girl with messy brown hair and wide eyes, sits cross-legged on her bed, hugging her favorite stuffed bunny. She frowns a little as she looks up at her mom, who is folding laundry by the dresser.
"Mommy, why do I have to poop? I don’t like it. It’s yucky!"
Mom smiles softly and gives Lila a warm hug.
"I know it feels yucky sometimes, Lila, but let me tell you a secret about your amazing body. When you eat your breakfast, like your yummy eggs and toast, your body takes all the good stuff—like protein, vitamins, and minerals—to help you grow strong and healthy."
"Your tummy and your insides are like little workers in a factory! They grab all the good things from your food, the things you need to run and play and laugh. But just like when you build something with blocks and have leftover pieces, there are always bits your body doesn’t need."
"That leftover stuff is what we call poop. It’s just the garbage that your body is done with! If you didn’t throw the garbage away at home, the house would start to smell, right? Well, your body needs to throw its garbage away too, to stay clean and healthy."
"So, pooping is like taking out the trash from my tummy? That’s not so yucky after all! It helps me stay strong and happy!"
"Exactly, sweetheart! Everyone poops, even your bunny. It’s a sign that your body is doing its job just right."
"I’m going to tell my friends at preschool that pooping is like taking out the trash! Thank you, Mommy!"
"You’re welcome, Lila. Now, how about we have a healthy snack before school?"
