Yaseen sat cross-legged beside his younger sister, Khadija, tracing patterns on the edge of his prayer rug. Their mother arranged breakfast on the table, while their father gently called out, "Time for Fajr prayer, my dear ones. Let us gather together." The children hurried to their spots, eager to join.
Yaseen and Khadija followed their parents to the mosque, hands clasped tightly. Inside, the Imam greeted everyone with a smile. As the congregation lined up, "Mama, what if I get tired during prayer?" whispered Khadija, her eyes wide with concern.
The Imam knelt beside Khadija and Yaseen, his voice gentle. "The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was always merciful to children during prayer. Once, he heard a baby cry while leading prayer, and he finished quickly so the mother could comfort her child." Yaseen's eyes lit up. "That means Allah loves when we care for each other, even during prayer!"
Khadija squeezed her brother's hand, comforted by the story. "I like that the Prophet was so kind. It makes me feel safe to pray, even if I'm small." Their mother smiled, whispering, "Mercy is at the heart of our faith, my loves."
Yaseen turned to his father, thoughtful. "Baba, can we be merciful like the Prophet too?" His father nodded, "Every time you show kindness to your sister, or help someone in need, you follow his example." Khadija giggled, resting her head on Yaseen's shoulder.
Yaseen and Khadija skipped ahead, their hearts full of joy and understanding. "Let's always be kind, Yaseen, just like the Prophet!" "Yes, and I'll look after you during prayer, little sister," promised Yaseen. Their parents watched, smiles bright as the morning sun, grateful for the lesson of mercy that would guide their family each day.
