Jamie blinked awake and sat up, but something felt off—her legs seemed longer, her hands daintier. She glanced in the mirror and let out a gasp. Staring back wasn't her own reflection, but that of her mother, Linda, who was usually impeccable and graceful in every way.
"Oh no. No no no. This can't be happening," she muttered, patting her face and tugging at her hair in disbelief.
Linda[/@ch_2]—now in Jamie's teenage body—stares at a cell phone, fumbling with unfamiliar apps.]
Across the table, Jamie struggles to walk in her mother's favorite pair of red heels, wobbling with each step.
"Careful with those, Jamie—or, should I say, me? They're not as easy as they look,"
"Why do your feet feel like torture devices? How do you do this every day?" she groans, clutching the countertop for support.
Jamie[/@ch_1], still in Linda's body and heels, attempts her mother's brisk commute.]
She teeters perilously as the heels catch on a crack. The world seems to tilt as she flails, arms windmilling, barely regaining her balance before toppling into a planter.
"I can't believe you walk in these every day without breaking your ankles," she mutters, cheeks burning as a passerby snickers.
Jamie[/@ch_1] tries to glide gracefully.]
She stumbles into an elevator, nearly colliding with Mr. Sanders, her mother's stern boss.
"Running late today, Linda? That's not like you,"
"Just...testing the resilience of fashionable footwear," she replies, forcing a nervous smile.
Jamie[/@ch_1] and Linda sit together on the couch, shoes kicked off, exhausted but laughing.]
"You know, it's harder being you than I thought," Linda admits, glancing at her daughter with newfound respect.
"And I promise never to judge your shoe choices again," Jamie laughs, wiggling her sore toes.
Jamie[/@ch_1] wakes in her own body, feet blessedly bare. Relief and gratitude wash over her as she stretches, ready to greet the day.]
She grins at her sneakers by the door, silently vowing never to take comfort for granted again.
"Today, I walk tall...in flats," she whispers with a triumphant smile.
