Reem glanced up from her book as Mariam trudged over, a frown etched on her face. "Hey Mariam, what's up?" she asked, curiosity piqued by her friend's demeanor. "Oh, Reem, I'm about to lose my marbles!" Mariam exclaimed, throwing her hands up in exasperation. Reem furrowed her brows, puzzled. "Lose your marbles? Did you have a marble collection I didn't know about?" she inquired innocently. Mariam rolled her eyes, a small smile playing on her lips. "No, it's just an idiom! It means I'm going crazy."
Reem chuckled, shaking her head in amusement. "Oh, got it! Well, don't worry, you're not barking up the wrong tree." she replied with a grin. Mariam raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Reem's choice of words. "Barking up the wrong tree? Are we talking about dogs now?" she teased, crossing her arms. Reem laughed, enjoying the exchange. "No, it means you're not making a mistake. Everything's fine." she clarified, her eyes sparkling with humor.
Mariam sighed, her shoulders relaxing slightly. "Okay, thanks. Anyway, I'm really in a pickle with this school project." she admitted, frustration evident in her voice. Reem couldn't help but laugh at the expression. "A pickle? How did you end up in a pickle? Were you making sandwiches?" she joked, trying to lighten the mood. Mariam groaned, but her lips twitched upwards. "No, Reem! It means I'm in a difficult situation." she explained, shaking her head at her friend's literal interpretation.
Reem nodded, now understanding the idiomatic expression. "Got it. Well, just take it with a grain of salt." she advised, hoping to offer some comfort. Mariam looked at her, puzzled by the suggestion. "Salt? What does salt have to do with my school project?" she asked, genuinely curious. Reem smiled, happy to share the meaning. "It means don't take it too seriously. Everything will work out." she explained, patting Mariam on the shoulder reassuringly.
Mariam couldn't help but laugh, grateful for Reem's support. "You're a real piece of work, Mariam." Reem commented, her tone teasing but affectionate. Mariam chuckled, taking the comment in stride. "Thanks! I'll take that as a compliment. Just remember, when life gives you lemons..." she started, her tone playful. Reem quickly interjected, finishing the phrase. "...make lemonade? Got it." she said, grinning at her friend.
Mariam smiled, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. "Exactly. Now let's tackle that project together!" she suggested, her determination renewed. Reem nodded, grateful for the camaraderie. "Thanks, Mariam. You're a good friend, even if you do speak in riddles." she admitted, her tone affectionate. Mariam laughed, linking arms with Reem as they headed towards the school building. "Anytime, Reem. Now, let's roll up our sleeves and get to work." she declared, ready to face the challenge ahead with her friend by her side.
