Emma groaned and buried her head under the pillow, trying to block out the noise. Jake, her younger brother, was already awake and rummaging through the closet.
"Turn that thing off, Jake!" Emma mumbled from under the pillow. "But it's your turn to make breakfast," Jake replied with a mischievous grin.
Emma stood in front of the toaster, trying to salvage what was left of breakfast. Jake was perched on a stool, nibbling on a piece of cereal.
"You know, if you helped, we might eat before noon," Emma quipped. "I'm supervising," Jake responded, dodging a playful swat from his sister.
Emma zipped her backpack, glancing at the clock. Jake stumbled around, searching for his missing shoe.
"Have you seen my sneaker?" Jake asked, slightly panicked. "Check under the couch. Again," Emma suggested, rolling her eyes affectionately.
Jake hopped from foot to foot, trying to keep warm. Emma stood beside him, clutching her books.
"Bet you I can make it to that tree and back before the bus comes," Jake challenged. "You're on," Emma replied, a competitive spark in her eye.
Emma flicked through the channels, searching for something to watch. Jake sprawled out, his eyes half-closed in relaxation.
"Today was fun," Jake said, stifling a yawn. "Every day is an adventure with you," Emma replied, smiling softly.
Emma tucked herself under the covers, feeling the weight of the day slip away. Jake was already asleep, snoring softly beside her.
"Goodnight, little brother," Emma whispered, ruffling his hair gently before drifting into her own dreams.
