Tommy, a mischievous ten-year-old with tousled hair and an impish grin, bounded down the stairs, eager for Thanksgiving. His father, Mark, a jovial man with a penchant for pranks, was already in the kitchen, stirring a pot of cranberry sauce. "Hey, Tommy! I've got a special task for you today," he called, with a twinkle in his eye.
Tommy eyed his father suspiciously as he approached. Mark held up a large, fluffy turkey costume, its vibrant feathers shimmering in the light. "How would you like to be the star of our Thanksgiving dinner?" he proposed, his grin widening. Tommy crossed his arms, feigning reluctance, but his curiosity was piqued.
Tommy donned the turkey costume with a dramatic flourish, feeling both silly and excited. Mark chuckled, imagining the surprise of the guests when they saw their unusual centerpiece. Tommy, however, was already hatching a plan of his own. "I'll play along, but just you wait," he thought to himself, eyes sparkling with mischief.
As the family gathered around the table, Tommy strutted in, gobbling theatrically to the delight of his relatives. Mark, proud of his prank, raised a toast. "Here's to our turkey, Tommy!" he declared. Laughter erupted, and Tommy took a bow, his moment of triumph near.
Tommy, waiting for the perfect moment, excused himself under the guise of getting more gravy. He returned with a bottle of whipped cream, sneaking behind his unsuspecting father. With a quick shake and a deft squeeze, he crowned Mark's head with a fluffy white cap. The room erupted in laughter as Mark wiped cream from his eyes, joining in the good-natured fun. "Alright, you got me!" he chuckled, ruffling Tommy's hair.
Tommy and Mark sat side by side on the couch, the costume and whipped cream forgotten. "You know, I think you make a better turkey than the real thing," Mark said, wrapping an arm around Tommy's shoulders. "And you, Dad, make the best pies," Tommy replied, grinning. As the fire crackled and the night grew deeper, the family settled into the contentment of a day well spent together.
