Derek and Faria stood awkwardly in the center of the room, a small infant nestled in a bright blue baby seat at their feet. The unexpected task of babysitting had thrown them into a whirlwind of confusion and mild panic.
"Who knew our Saturday night would be spent babysitting?"
"It's not like we had any other plans," Faria replied, her voice laced with sarcasm.
Derek paced back and forth, trying to ignore the rising volume.
"Maybe we should just adopt, solve all our problems," he joked, but the words hung awkwardly in the air.
"Adopt? Are you out of your mind?" Faria snapped, her eyes narrowing. "You can't even handle a joke like that!"
Derek and Faria exchanged desperate glances, their earlier argument forgotten.
"We need help," Faria admitted.
"Let's get a therapist or something," Derek suggested, grabbing his phone. The therapist's visit, however, ended in chaos, with Derek and Faria accidentally knocking over a stack of books and the therapist leaving hastily.
"Maybe it's possessed," Derek suggested, half-seriously.
"An exorcism? Really, Derek?" Faria retorted, her voice dripping with disbelief. "This isn't some horror movie!"
"I was just trying to lighten the mood," Derek replied defensively.
"What's all this noise about?" Zack asked, glancing at the crying child. With a surprising gentleness, he picked up the infant and gave it a soft back-tap.
"There you go, little one," Zack cooed, and miraculously, the crying ceased.
Derek and Faria stood frozen in disbelief, their minds struggling to comprehend what they'd witnessed. As Zack placed the now calm infant back in its seat, a wave of exhaustion washed over them.
Derek and Faria both fell to the floor, unconscious from the shock.
"Amateurs," Zack chuckled, stepping over them. With a final, triumphant smirk, he shut the door behind him, his laughter echoing down the hallway.
