Tom stood amidst the chaos, scratching his head as he surveyed their ambitious weekend project: transforming their garage into a cozy workshop. Lisa, armed with a clipboard and a bright smile, waved a list of tasks in the air.
"Okay, first we clear out the junk, then we paint, and finally, assemble the shelves," she declared with enthusiasm.
Tom tried to lift a particularly heavy box labeled "Mystery Stuff," grunting with effort.
"Why do we even have this?" he asked, half-joking, half-sincere.
Lisa chuckled, balancing on tiptoes to peer inside.
"I think it’s your old college memorabilia," she mused, teasing him gently.
Lisa carefully outlined a section with painter's tape, while Tom enthusiastically rolled on a bright blue hue.
"This is going to look amazing," he exclaimed, his optimism undampened even as a streak of paint landed on his shirt.
Lisa laughed, pointing to the splatter.
"Looks like you’re wearing more paint than the walls," she teased, playfully flicking a speck onto his nose.
Tom and Lisa froze, eyes wide as Muffin took off like a furry comet.
"Oh no, Muffin!" Tom called, dropping his brush and giving chase.
Lisa, suppressing a giggle, ran after him, the two of them stumbling over each other in pursuit of the wayward feline.
Tom sighed, looking at the half-painted walls and the scattered tools.
"Well, it's not perfect, but it's ours," he said, reaching for Lisa's hand.
Lisa squeezed his fingers, smiling softly.
"And we did it together," she replied, resting her head on his shoulder.
Tom looked around at the chaotic, yet charming scene.
"Next time, maybe we hire a professional," he quipped, winking at Lisa.
Lisa chuckled, nodding in agreement.
"Or at least buy more cat-friendly paint," she added, as Muffin settled down for a nap, her tail still a vibrant shade of blue.
