The god of wealth, Kubera, stood proudly in his magnificent palace, Alakapuri. The walls shimmered with gold and jewels, while celestial decorations adorned every corner, radppiating opulence. Dressed in luxurious robes, Kubera extended an invitation to Ganesh, who sat cheerfully on a golden throne, holding a modak in his hand. "Welcome, dear Ganesh, to my humble abode! Feast your eyes on the wealth of Alakapuri. Tonight, we shall dine like never before!" he declared with confidence. "Oh, Kubera! Your palace is truly magnificent. But tell me, will there be enough food to satisfy my hunger?" replied Ganesh, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. "Ha! With all the riches of the heavens, I assure you, your appetite will be more than satisfied!" Kubera boasted, unaware of the mischief to come.
As the evening unfolded, a chaotic scene took over Kubera's grand palace. Ganesh, having grown to a massive size, voraciously consumed everything he encountered—plates of food, furniture, decorations, and even the chandeliers. The celestial servants ran in panic, attempting to replace the plates, but Ganesh's appetite was insatiable. Kubera watched in horror, his confidence shattered, as he knelt before Ganesh with folded hands, pleading, "Wait, wait! Please, Lord Ganesh, spare my palace! I’ll bring more food, just stop eating the furniture!" But Ganesh merely chuckled, "I’m still hungry, Kubera! If you don’t feed me more, I’ll have no choice but to eat you next!" A servant hurriedly reported, "My lord, we’ve run out of food! He’s eaten everything—even the decorations!" Panic-stricken, Kubera cried, "This is a disaster! I must seek Lord Shiva’s help before it’s too late!"
Desperation had humbled Kubera, and he returned to Ganesh, offering a simple handful of roasted rice. The palace, now a shadow of its former glory, bore scars of the feast. Ganesh, having returned to his normal size, smiled contentedly as he accepted the humble offering. Kubera knelt with folded hands, an expression of relief and humility on his face. "Lord Ganesh, please accept this humble offering of roasted rice. It is given with all my love and devotion." Ganesh replied warmly, "Ah, Kubera, this is the most satisfying meal I’ve had today. It’s not the quantity of food but the love with which it is offered that truly fills the heart." Kubera nodded, "Forgive my arrogance, Lord Ganesh. I have learned that wealth without humility is meaningless." Ganesh imparted a final lesson, "Indeed, Kubera. Remember, true abundance lies in the heart, not in material riches." The palace, now illuminated by a soft, divine glow, stood as a testament to the power of humility and love over material wealth.
