Shaggy and Scooby huddled together under a broken window ledge, their eyes wide with a mix of curiosity and fear. The wind howled through the empty corridors, carrying with it the whispered rumors of a ghostly presence.
"Like, Scoob, I think we might have taken the wrong turn at that last intersection," whispered Shaggy, his voice trembling slightly.
"Ruh-roh, Raggy!" replied Scooby, his ears twitching as he scanned the darkened halls.
Shaggy spotted the phone and a mischievous grin spread across his face.
"Hey, Scoob, I've got an idea to lighten things up. How about we make a prank call to the police? It'll be fun, like a little break from all this ghost chasing," he suggested, eyes glinting with mischief.
"Reah, rank rall!" agreed Scooby, wagging his tail enthusiastically.
Officer Jenkins, a middle-aged man with a skeptical brow and a no-nonsense attitude, picked up the ringing phone, his face a mask of concentration.
"Hello, officer? This is, uh, Shaggy... and Scooby-Doo! We found a ghost in the old mansion!" Shaggy said, trying to suppress his laughter.
"A ghost, you say? Alright, young man, we'll send someone over to check it out," replied Officer Jenkins, rolling his eyes as he hung up the phone.
They crept cautiously up the creaking stairs, each step reverberating through the silent house.
"I don't like the sound of this, Scoob," murmured Shaggy, his hand resting on the attic door.
Suddenly, the door burst open, revealing a shadowy figure draped in a tattered sheet. It lunged towards them with a menacing growl.
"Rit's a real ghost!" yelped Scooby, hiding behind Shaggy.
With a swift tug, Shaggy pulled the sheet away, revealing a cunningly disguised man underneath.
"It's just a guy in a costume!" Shaggy exclaimed, relief washing over him.
The Con Artist, a wiry man with a crafty grin, scowled at being discovered.
"I would've gotten away with it if it weren't for you meddling kids!" he snapped.
Shaggy and Scooby watched as The Con Artist was led away in handcuffs, their earlier prank forgotten in the excitement of solving the mystery.
"Well, Scoob, I guess we really scared the pants off that guy!" chuckled Shaggy.
"Reah, rank rall was rotally worth it!" agreed Scooby, sharing a victorious high-five with Shaggy.
