Wendy sat at her immaculate desk, her brown eyes flicking over the endless rows of numbers on her computer screen. Her mind, however, was elsewhere, lost in thoughts of Costo, her assistant whose disheveled charm and bright blue eyes never failed to bring a smile to her face. "Why does he have to be so oblivious?" Wendy mused to herself, her gaze drifting to the empty seat across from her.
Wendy had orchestrated this morning meeting, hoping to create a casual setting to spend more time with Costo. She watched as he clumsily tried to organize the presentation materials, his blonde hair falling into his eyes.
"Costo, I thought we could grab lunch together after this," Wendy suggested, trying to sound nonchalant.
"Oh, sure! I was planning to try that new taco place," Costo replied, his attention focused on untangling a stubborn projector wire.
Wendy sat across from Costo, trying desperately to convey her interest. Yet, every attempt seemed to go unnoticed as he delved into a detailed recount of his weekend adventures.
"You know, Costo, I've been thinking a lot about work-life balance," Wendy interjected, hoping to steer the conversation.
"Yeah, it's important! I mean, look at me, I even managed to bake a pie yesterday!" Costo grinned, seemingly oblivious to the subtext.
Wendy found herself walking beside Costo after work, her heart fluttering with unspoken emotions. The corridor seemed to close in, heightening her anticipation and desire to finally express herself.
"Costo, there's something I need to tell you," Wendy began, her voice trembling slightly.
"What is it, Wendy?" Costo asked, stopping to give her his full attention.
Wendy took a deep breath, feeling the cool night air fill her lungs. Costo stood beside her, his expression curious and open.
"Costo, I like you. More than just an assistant or a friend," Wendy confessed, her cheeks flushed with vulnerability.
"Wow, Wendy, I—I'm flattered," Costo stammered, taken aback. "I never realized... I guess I'm not as observant as I thought."
Wendy felt a weight lift from her shoulders, replaced by a hopeful anticipation. Costo smiled at her, his eyes reflecting the city lights, a new understanding blossoming between them.
"Maybe we should start with that taco place you mentioned earlier," Costo suggested, his own cheeks tinged with color.
"I'd like that," Wendy replied, her smile wide and genuine, as they both turned to look at the city, their futures intertwined.
