Anna walked briskly across the green, her thoughts focused on the upcoming chemistry midterm. The sun glinted off her auburn hair as she hurried past groups of chatting students. Mark, a fellow student, watched her from a distance, his face a mix of frustration and envy.
Mark glared at Anna as she disappeared into the crowd. "If only she had said yes," he muttered under his breath, feeling the sting of rejection. His grip tightened on the acorn, an idea forming in his mind.
Mark trailed Anna through the throng of students, his heart pounding with anticipation. As she paused near a bench to check her phone, he seized the opportunity. With a swift motion, Mark flicked the acorn, watching it arc through the air with precision.
Anna gasped as the acorn struck, her face flushing with embarrassment and fear. Before she could react, the squirrels, drawn by the scent of the acorn, scampered eagerly towards her. "Oh my god, get them off!" she screamed, swatting at her clothes in panic.
Anna took a deep breath, her cheeks burning with humiliation as she brushed off her clothes. Mark watched from afar, a fleeting moment of satisfaction quickly replaced by guilt and regret. "What was I thinking?" he whispered to himself, realizing the consequences of his actions.
Anna sat quietly on a bench, the cool evening air soothing her frazzled nerves. Mark, on the other side of the lawn, pondered his next move. "I owe her an apology," he decided, feeling the weight of his mistake. As the sun dipped below the horizon, both knew that tomorrow would bring a chance for resolution.
