Annie Carlson sat on the bleachers, her legs stretched out awkwardly in front of her. The gleaming Under Armour sneakers she wore were comically oversized, drawing curious glances from passersby. Her face was a mix of determination and discomfort as she tried, unsuccessfully, to move her stiff legs.
Katie Brassue, her classmate and a budding physiotherapist, noticed Annie's struggle. She approached with a warm smile, her ponytail bouncing with each step. "Hey, Annie, need a hand?" Annie nodded gratefully, relief evident in her eyes.
Katie knelt beside Annie, gently guiding her through a series of stretches. "Just breathe and try to relax," she encouraged, her voice calm and reassuring. Annie, though wincing slightly, followed Katie's instructions, feeling the tightness in her muscles gradually ease.
"Thanks, Katie. I didn't realize how much I needed this," Annie admitted, a hint of embarrassment coloring her cheeks. Katie chuckled softly, her eyes kind. "No worries. That's what friends are for, right?" The shared moment of camaraderie brought a smile to Annie's face, the tension in her body slowly unraveling.
Annie felt a newfound sense of freedom in her limbs as Katie guided her through one final stretch. "I think I'm ready to take on those sneakers now," she declared with a grin, glancing down at the enormous shoes that had once felt like a burden.
"Next time, let's tackle those sneakers together," Katie suggested, slinging her bag over her shoulder. Annie nodded, her heart light with gratitude and the promise of future challenges shared with a friend.
