Rose sat hunched over her keyboard, fingers dancing across the keys with feverish intensity. Her eyes, glued to the screen, reflected a world far removed from her own. The noise of the virtual battlefield filled the room, drowning out the distant call of her mother.
[@ch_2]Hannah[/@ch_2_d]"Rose, it's time to study,"[/@ch_2_d] her voice, tinged with frustration, barely penetrated the soundscape of explosions and gunfire.
"In a minute, Mom," Rose replied distractedly, her attention unwavering.
Hannah stood by the stove, her posture rigid with tension. She glanced at the clock, then back towards the hallway leading to Rose's room.
"You need to get your priorities straight, Rose," Hannah insisted as Rose shuffled into the room, her expression defiant.
"Games are my future, Mom. You just don’t understand," Rose retorted, crossing her arms.
"Your future is slipping away while you're lost in those games," Hannah said, her voice rising with desperation.
Rose turned on her heel, her frustration boiling over. "I’m leaving," she declared, storming towards the door.
"Rose, wait!" Hannah called out, her heart aching as her daughter disappeared into the night.
Rose slammed the door behind her, the cool night air biting against her skin as she walked away, determined to prove her independence.
Rose wandered aimlessly, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. She reached out to her friends, but their laughter echoed with mockery when she shared her plight.
Friend[/@ch_3_d]"You should've listened to your mom,"[/@ch_3_d] one of them scoffed, leaving [@ch_1]Rose feeling hollow.
Tears blurred her vision as she realized the gravity of her choices. Her confidence crumbled, leaving her vulnerable and alone.
Rose hugged her knees, her mind replaying the arguments with her mother. The weight of her decisions pressed heavily on her shoulders, and she longed for the comfort of home.
"I should have listened," she whispered to the night, her voice choked with regret.
Rose hesitated at the doorstep, her heart pounding with a mix of fear and hope. She reached for the door handle, only to find it locked.
"Mom?" Rose called softly, tapping on the door, but there was no response.
Tears streamed down her face as she slumped against the door, realizing the finality of her actions. The world felt cold and silent, and all she could do was wait for the dawn.
