Irene wakes up to the gentle hum of the city, stretching her arms and glancing across at her favorite teddy, Murphy. She lingers for a moment, wishing her parents were home, before smiling and hugging Murphy tightly. "Good morning, Murphy. Today is our day," she whispers, determination shining in her eyes.
Irene walks confidently, greeting neighbors with bright hellos. Her friends gather by the school gates, waving enthusiastically, and she joins them, her giggle infectious. "Did you finish the science project, Irene? You always do it so well!" asks a classmate, admiration in her voice.
She glances at the empty seat where her parents might have been and sighs softly, but her friends quickly notice. "We’re your family at school, Irene. Pass the juice!" laughs another. Irene beams, feeling the warmth of their care surround her.
Irene pauses at a busy intersection, remembering her parents’ advice about crossing safely. She buys a small treat from the bakery—a reward for managing everything herself. "Look, Murphy, we did it all on our own," she says, pride sparkling in her voice.
She feels the ache of missing her parents but finds comfort in the love she receives from everyone around her. "They love me, Murphy, even when they’re far away. And I can do anything I set my mind to," she whispers, hope fluttering in her chest.
As sleep drifts in, Irene smiles, knowing she is never truly alone. The love she receives from friends, neighbors, and Murphy fills the spaces her parents cannot, and she dreams of new adventures she’ll conquer on her own.
