Ethan sat across from Sophia, his eyes searching for answers in her distant gaze. "I want to focus on my future," she said firmly, her hands clasped around a mug. Ethan leaned forward, desperation in his voice. "We can grow together," he pleaded. Sophia shook her head, her resolve unyielding. "I need to do this on my own."
James, unaware of the storm brewing beneath the surface, beamed at Ethan. "I want you to meet my new girlfriend," he announced with a grin. Ethan entered the room, his heart sinking as he saw Sophia standing there, an awkward smile on her face. James gestured to her proudly. "This is Sophia. You two will get along great!" Sophia nodded, her voice steady. "Ethan, long time no see."
James animatedly recounted how he met Sophia in a bookstore, his admiration evident. "I saw her reading a business management book. Not many young women take an interest in those kinds of books," he chuckled. Sophia offered a small smile. "You asked me a lot of questions that day." James laughed heartily. "Sophia is one of the most remarkable women I've ever known." Ethan remained silent, his thoughts turbulent.
Sophia pulled Ethan aside, her voice barely above a whisper. "The baby is yours," she confessed, her eyes searching his for understanding. Ethan stiffened, shock rippling through him. "What?" he breathed, the weight of her words sinking in. Sophia nodded, her expression pained. "But James can never know."
James stood proudly, showing Ethan the nursery. "I can’t wait for the baby to arrive!" he exclaimed, joy radiating from him. Ethan forced a smile, his heart heavy with the secret he carried. "Yeah, Dad. It looks great," he replied, his voice strained. He turned, stepping into the sunlight, the burden of unspoken truths weighing heavily on him.
