Jannie sat quietly at her desk, her fingers gliding over her keyboard as she worked on a new graphic design. Her introverted nature made her almost invisible amidst the chaos. She glanced over at Lila, her best friend, who was engrossed in a conversation with colleagues at the coffee station. Despite their friendship, Jannie felt a growing distance between them, especially when it came to discussing her struggles with a certain coworker.
Mark, a domineering presence in the office, leaned casually against the counter. His voice was low and mocking as he spoke to a group of coworkers. "Did you see how she just sits there, always avoiding everyone? Talk about a loner!" His words cut through Jannie like a knife.
"Why can't they just leave me be?" she whispered to herself, her voice trembling with emotion. She missed the days when Lila would listen and understand, but now even her friend seemed distant, dismissing her worries as paranoia.
She closed her eyes and whispered a prayer, allowing the familiar words to calm her racing thoughts. "God, give me strength," she murmured, feeling a warmth settle around her heart. It was moments like these that reminded her she was never truly alone.
Her manager, Sarah, approached with a kind smile, a marked contrast to the usual office dynamics. "I wanted to talk to you about your latest design. It's exceptional, and we're considering it for a major campaign," she said, her words a balm to Jannie's wounded spirit.
"I'm sorry, Jannie," Lila said, her voice sincere. "I didn't realize how much you've been going through. I should have listened."
"It's okay," Jannie replied softly, a small smile tugging at her lips. "I just needed to know that I'm not alone in this." Together, they sat in companionable silence, the bond between them strengthened by newfound understanding and empathy.
