A twelve-year-old boy trudged through the alley, his small frame struggling under the weight of two crates. One sloshed with water, while the other clinked with bottles of beer. His breath came in short gasps as he hurried along, the muted glow of streetlights reflecting off the wet ground.
"Why do I have to carry these every time?" he muttered, frustration etched across his young face.
The Batmobile pulled up beside the boy, and the door opened to reveal Batman, his cape billowing slightly in the night breeze. He had just thwarted a robbery at the museum, yet his attention was now drawn to the struggling boy.
"What's troubling you?" Batman asked, his voice a deep, reassuring presence amidst the chaos of the city.
The boy explained his plight, his stepfather's callousness, and the reason he was left to carry the heavy load. Batman listened intently, his eyes narrowing with suspicion.
Batman placed the crates in the Batmobile, offering the boy a ride home. The boy, both excited and nervous, watched the city blur past, a mix of wonder and relief washing over him.
"We'll see about getting you some help," Batman assured him, his focus already on the unfolding mystery.
Arriving home, they found the stepfather busy with his own boxes, his demeanor shifting to fear upon seeing Batman. In his panic, a box slipped from his grasp, spilling its contents—heroin—onto the ground.
"I knew something was off," Batman declared, his gaze unwavering as he stepped forward.
The boy's mother appeared at the doorway, her expression turning from confusion to horror. She watched as Batman called the police, her heart heavy with the realization of her husband's betrayal.
"I promise, you'll never have to go through this again," she vowed to her son, pulling him into a protective embrace.
With the police arriving to arrest the stepfather, Batman prepared to leave. The boy waved goodbye, his heart lighter with the promise of a new beginning.
"Stay strong," Batman said before disappearing into the darkness, the Batmobile's engine fading into the night as he returned to the Batcave.
