Sophie stood in front of the mirror, her fingers tracing the sharp lines of her collarbones. Every morning, she measured the spaces between her ribs, counting numbers under her breath as if they were a magic spell. Sophia lounged on the edge of the bed, pulling at her shirt self-consciously, her eyes darting to her own reflection.
"Why can't I just be curvy like everyone else?"
"And why can't I be bony like you, Sophie? My chest keeps growing, and I hate it," Sophia whispered, hugging her knees tighter. Both girls looked at each other, frustration and sadness mirroring in their faces.
Sophie[/@ch_1]'s mind: 26, 25, 24... then 14, 8, 3kg. Sophia's chest seems to grow by the hour, straining her shirts.]
Sophie tried every trick she knew to gain weight, sneaking cookies and peanut butter, but the numbers kept dropping. Sophia hid her body in layers, but each morning she woke to find her chest almost doubled in size, the weight overwhelming. Their desperate efforts only seemed to push them further from what they wanted.
"I'm scared, Sophia. What if I disappear?" Sophie's voice trembled, barely above a whisper.
"And what if I get so big I can't stand up anymore?" Sophia replied, voice shaking as she reached out to hold Sophie's hand.
"Maybe we're just supposed to be like this," Sophie said at last, squeezing Sophia's hand.
"Maybe loving ourselves is the only way we can be happy," Sophia agreed, a small smile forming on her lips. Together, they laughed for the first time in weeks.
Sophie and Sophia walk side by side, each step lighter than the last. No longer wishing to trade bodies, they find comfort in their differences, their love for each other stronger than ever. As the sun shines down, they realize they are enough—just as they are.
