Nayer wandered along the unfamiliar avenue, her small hands trembling as she wiped tears from her cheeks. The world around her felt enormous, each shadow stretching longer as the sky darkened. She clutched her faded backpack, heart pounding, glancing desperately at strangers who rushed past without noticing her distress.
Nayer tried to steady her breath, but the fear inside her grew heavier with every step. She called out, her voice barely rising above the drizzle, but no one seemed to hear. Her sobs echoed softly, mingling with the sounds of raindrops tapping against metal grates.
Summoning her last bit of courage, Nayer hurried toward the car, her shoes squelching with each step. The officer inside noticed her and quickly stepped out, concern etched on his face. "Excuse me, I... I can't find my mom," she managed between sobs, her eyes pleading for help.
The officer spoke in a calm, reassuring voice, asking Nayer her name and what her mother looked like. Nayer described her mother’s red scarf and kind eyes, clinging to the hope that someone would soon find her. "Don’t worry, we’ll help you get home," the officer assured, radioing in the details.
Nayer saw her mother in the distance and broke into a run, tears flowing anew—this time from relief. As they embraced, the world seemed to shrink to just the two of them, safe and whole again. Nayer's mother thanked the officer, her gratitude shining in her eyes.
Nayer looked up at her mother, feeling the warmth of her hand and the security of her love. The memory of fear faded with every step, replaced by the comfort of being found. They disappeared into the night, hearts full and hopeful.
