Wolverine scanned the crowd, his senses on high alert despite the normalcy of the scene. Jubilee walked with a bounce in her step, her eyes bright with determination. "Let's make this quick," Wolverine grumbled, his voice a low growl.
"Relax, Logan. Just another day in paradise," Jubilee replied, flashing him a reassuring smile. They entered the store, the atmosphere warm and welcoming.
As they exited, arms laden with supplies, they were met by a sea of angry faces. The protestors, eyes filled with rage, brandished signs and guns. Wolverine felt his claws itching to extend. "Looks like we've got company," he muttered, eyes narrowing.
Bullets whizzed through the air. Wolverine unsheathed his claws with a metallic snikt, lunging forward with ferocity. Jubilee raised her hands, a cascade of colorful energy blasting from her fingertips. "Time to light up the night!" she shouted, her voice cutting through the chaos.
The protestors lay defeated, their weapons sizzling from Jubilee's energy blasts. Wolverine stood over them, his chest heaving with exertion. Jubilee brushed ash from her jacket, a satisfied grin playing on her lips. "That was... intense," she said, glancing at Wolverine.
"We're not done yet," he replied, his gaze shifting to a young boy huddled nearby, clutching his knee in pain.
Jubilee gently lifted the boy, Eli, who winced in pain but clung to her trustingly. "Hey there, buddy. Let's get you home," she said soothingly. Eli's voice was a whisper as he revealed his fears about his mutant brother.
Wolverine, overhearing, clenched his fists, anger simmering beneath his calm exterior. "No kid should live in fear," he vowed, his eyes burning with resolve.
Eli's parents rushed out, relief flooding their faces as they embraced their son. Jubilee watched, her heart swelling with warmth. Wolverine stood back, nodding at the parents' gratitude. "Take care of each other," she advised, her voice gentle but firm.
"We'll make sure they can," Wolverine added, his promise lingering in the air as they turned to leave.
Jubilee nudged Wolverine, her eyes sparkling with determination. "Time to take these supplies home," she said, her voice carrying a new weight.
"And get ready for whatever comes next," Wolverine replied, his tone firm and unyielding. Together, they walked into the gathering dusk, ready to face the challenges ahead.
