I stood by the car, staring disbelievingly at the bright pink bikini my mom, Lauren, held out to me. She had forgotten my swim trunks at home, and this was her solution. "It's just for today, Drew. No one will even notice!" She reassured, waving her hand dismissively.
As I walked towards the water, I could feel eyes turning in my direction, whispers trailing in my wake. Ethan, my best friend, was already in the water, his face lighting up with confusion and a hint of amusement when he saw me. "Dude, what are you wearing?" he called out, laughter bubbling in his voice.
I shrugged, attempting to play it cool. "Mom forgot my trunks. It's either this or sit on the beach all day," I replied, trying to match his nonchalance. Ethan smirked, "Well, you're rocking it, man. Let's hit the waves."
With each dive and splash, the pink bikini became less of a burden and more of a symbol of my newfound bravery. Ethan and I shared countless jokes, the teasing from others fading into the background of an unforgettable day.
Lauren approached, a proud smile on her face. "I'm sorry about today, Drew. But you handled it like a champ," she said, ruffling my hair with affection. I grinned, "Thanks, Mom. Maybe next time, remember the trunks?"
