Lila and Maya stood on opposite sides of the room, their faces flushed with anger. "It's not fair, Lila. You know how much I sacrificed for this family," Maya's voice trembled with frustration.
"And you think I haven't? I've been here too, Maya. We both deserve a fair share," Lila shot back, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears.
The sisters found themselves disoriented, as the living room dissolved around them. When the light subsided, they stood in their high school gym, the familiar scent of polished wood and sweat filling the air.
Lila looked down at her attire, now a traditional white karate gi. Beside her, Maya was similarly dressed, her expression a mix of surprise and determination.
"What... how did we get here?" Lila asked, her voice a whisper in the cavernous space.
"I don't know, but it seems we've got some unfinished business," Maya replied, already tying her belt with practiced ease.
"Remember Sensei's teachings?" Lila challenged, a hint of a smile on her lips.
"Always," Maya responded, her eyes narrowing with focus.
With a simultaneous shout, they launched into a series of swift kicks and punches, their movements synchronized yet fierce, each strike a manifestation of their emotions.
Lila lowered her stance, looking at Maya with newfound clarity. "I guess we both needed this," she admitted, a soft chuckle escaping her lips.
"Yeah, we did," Maya agreed, extending a hand towards Lila.
Lila and Maya exchanged a look of mutual respect, their earlier anger replaced by a sense of peace.
"Let's figure this out together, okay?" Maya suggested, her tone conciliatory.
"Together," Lila agreed, feeling the weight of their shared history lift.
