Mia arrived at her friend’s house, her excitement bubbling over as she clutched her overnight bag. This was her first sleepover at Emma's house, and she couldn't wait for the night of fun ahead.
Emma welcomed Mia with a wide grin, her curly hair bouncing as she led her friend to the makeshift bed on the floor. "I've got everything ready for us," she said, pointing to the array of snacks and movies.
"I sometimes need an oxygen mask at night," Mia confessed hesitantly, her voice barely above a whisper. She felt a twinge of embarrassment, unsure of how Emma would react.
"That's okay," Emma replied, reaching over to squeeze Mia's hand reassuringly. "If you need it, just let me know. I can help." Her words were a balm, soothing Mia's anxiety.
In the middle of the night, Mia awoke with a start, feeling the familiar tightness in her chest. She reached for her mask, but her fingers trembled. Emma, sensing the movement, woke and quickly handed it over, her presence a comforting anchor.
Mia smiled at Emma, gratitude shining in her eyes. "Thank you for last night," she said softly. "Anytime," Emma replied with a smile. They both knew their friendship had only grown stronger through the night.
