Leonardo, known among his peers as the "Re della Banchina," stood at the edge of the bustling dock, his keen eyes scanning the scene before him. His reputation as a leader was well-earned, guiding his team with both authority and a keen sense of camaraderie. Today, however, his thoughts were on Fabio, a young man with untapped potential whom Leonardo had taken under his wing.
"Fabio, remember the key is precision and speed," he advised, his voice carrying over the noise.
Fabio, eager and attentive, nodded, his eyes wide with admiration. "I won't let you down, Leonardo."
Simone wiped sweat from his brow, his gaze narrowing as he watched Leonardo and Fabio. "Seems like all the praise goes to Fabio these days," he muttered to Salvatore.
Salvatore, equally frustrated, nodded. "We work just as hard, yet we're left in the shadows," he agreed, a hint of bitterness lacing his words.
"Why is Fabio treated like royalty while we are overlooked?" Simone demanded, his voice rising over the clatter of metal.
Leonardo faced them, his expression calm but firm. "We all have our roles. Fabio shows promise, but that doesn't diminish your contributions," he replied.
Salvatore shook his head, frustration evident. "It feels like you've chosen him over us," he said, his voice tinged with hurt.
Fabio felt the weight of the conflict pressing down on him. He admired Leonardo and cherished his friendships with Simone and Salvatore. "There must be a way to mend this," he whispered to himself, the gentle lapping of waves his only answer.
"We can't let this divide us," Fabio pleaded, his voice earnest. "Leonardo values all of you, and so do I."
Simone and Salvatore exchanged glances but remained silent, their resentment still simmering. "It's not that simple, Fabio," Salvatore finally said, turning away.
Leonardo joined him, his expression one of regret. "I'm sorry it came to this, Fabio. You deserved better," he said, placing a reassuring hand on Fabio's shoulder.
Fabio nodded, his eyes reflecting the fading light. "I wish things could have been different," he replied softly, turning to face the open sea, hoping that one day, the tides would bring them all back together.
