Lila sat on a park bench with her sketchbook, the pages filled with charcoal drawings of trees and people. Her eyes lingered over the scene, capturing the tranquility of the moment.
Max, the new student, stood by the swings, his backpack slung over one shoulder. A group of older kids approached, their voices taunting and loud.
Lila watched from a distance, her heart pounding as she saw Max's discomfort.
Lila took a deep breath, summoning courage she didn't know she had. "Hey, leave him alone!" she called out, her voice trembling but firm.
The bullies paused, surprised by Lila's unexpected intervention. Max looked at her, his eyes wide with gratitude and relief.
After the bullies left, Lila approached Max, offering a reassuring smile. "Thanks for standing up for me," Max said, his voice filled with warmth.
Lila shrugged, her cheeks flushing. "No one should be treated like that," she replied softly.
Lila and Max walked together, sharing stories and laughter. They discovered a shared love for art and nature, their friendship growing with each step.
"It's nice to have a friend," Max said, a genuine smile lighting up his face.
Lila realized that standing up for Max had changed something within her. She felt stronger, more confident, knowing that kindness and empathy could make a real difference.
"I'm glad I spoke up," she thought to herself, gazing at the stars beginning to twinkle in the twilight sky.
