The younger son stood in the courtyard, eyes filled with determination and restlessness. "Father, give me my share of the estate," he demanded, eager to carve his own path in the world. The father, a man of wisdom and kindness, nodded solemnly, his heart heavy with concern. He divided his property, watching as his son packed his belongings and set off towards the horizon.
He squandered his wealth in relentless pursuit of pleasure, his days a blur of lavish parties and fleeting friendships. As money slipped through his fingers, the city that once promised excitement now felt cold and indifferent. When his pockets were empty, a shadow of despair descended, leaving him alone and destitute.
He found work tending to pigs, the lowest of tasks, his hunger gnawing at him with every passing day. As he watched the animals eat, he longed for even a morsel of their food. "How many of my father's servants have more than enough to eat, while I perish with hunger?" he thought, resolve building within him to return home, even if only as a servant.
The father stood at the edge of the property, his heart leaping as he recognized the familiar figure approaching. He ran, tears of joy streaming down his face, and embraced his son, who fell to his knees in repentance. "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you," he confessed, overwhelmed by guilt and regret.
The father instructed his servants to prepare a feast, rejoicing in the return of his son. "For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found," he declared, joy radiating from him. The older son, however, lingered outside, anger simmering within him.
The older son voiced his hurt, "I have served you loyally, yet you celebrate him who squandered everything." The father placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, "My son, you are always with me, and all I have is yours. But we must rejoice, for your brother was lost and now is found." Understanding dawned, and a sense of peace settled between them, as the family united in forgiveness and love.
