Ethan, the elder twin, sat on the patio, a thick book in his hands, the weight of responsibility evident in his furrowed brow. Lucas, his younger brother, lounged nearby, his eyes flickering between the book and the azure sky.
"Must you always read, Ethan? It's a beautiful day," Lucas remarked with a hint of envy.
"Father insists. You know how it is," replied Ethan, trying to mask his weariness.
Mr. Harrington, their father, sat at the head of the table, his gaze fixed on Ethan. Mrs. Harrington watched Lucas with a soft smile, offering him an extra serving.
"Ethan, how are your studies progressing?" Mr. Harrington inquired, his voice stern.
"They're going well, Father," Ethan replied dutifully.
"Lucas, you should try this pie, it's your favorite," Mrs. Harrington chimed in, her tone indulgent.
Lucas clenched his fists, his voice trembling with resentment.
"Why is it always about you, Ethan? You're not the only one here," Lucas accused.
Ethan sighed, the weight of his brother's jealousy pressing on him.
"I never asked for this, Lucas. I just do what I have to," he responded, his words falling like stones between them.
Lucas bursts in, anger and frustration etched on his face.
"I'm tired of being in your shadow, Ethan!" he shouted, the storm outside mirroring his turmoil.
"Lucas, please, let's talk," Ethan pleaded, but his voice was drowned out by the roar of the storm.
Lucas stood amidst the scattered pages, his chest heaving with regret.
"I didn't mean for it to go this far, Ethan," Lucas admitted, his voice barely a whisper.
Ethan approached him slowly, extending a hand of reconciliation.
"We're still brothers, Lucas. We can fix this together," he assured, his tone filled with hope.
Lucas and Ethan walked side by side, the past night's storm replaced by a newfound understanding.
"I'm sorry, Ethan. For everything," Lucas said, sincerity shining in his eyes.
"I know, and I forgive you," Ethan replied, their bond stronger for the trials they had faced.
Together, they stepped forward, ready to face whatever lay ahead, as brothers united once more.
