David sat at the kitchen table, sipping his coffee and reading the newspaper. His mind was miles away, distracted by the recent changes in his marriage. Emma, his wife, seemed distant and preoccupied lately. "I wonder what's been on her mind," he thought, glancing out the window.
Sarah, Emma's best friend, had stopped by to chat. "You know, Emma's been acting a bit strange lately," she mentioned casually. David looked up, concern etched on his face. "You noticed it too?" he asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
David decided to investigate. Late at night, when the house was silent, he found himself in Emma's study. Opening her laptop, he discovered a series of emails that confirmed his worst fears. "How could this happen?" he whispered, feeling a pang of betrayal.
David confronted Emma the next morning. "I know about the emails," he said quietly, his voice laced with hurt. Emma looked down, unable to meet his eyes. "I'm sorry, David," she replied, tears glistening in her eyes. The weight of their shared history hung heavily in the air as they faced the difficult path ahead.
