Sara stretched beneath her floral quilt, blinking sleepily as the sun rose higher. She glanced at her phone and smiled, reading a message from Jane, who always seemed to know how to start her day off right.
"Good morning! Don’t forget, we have pancakes and stories at my place. I’ll be waiting!"
Sara grinned, feeling the familiar flutter of excitement that came from spending time with her dearest friend.
Jane flipped pancakes with practiced ease, humming along to the music as Sara set out plates and syrup. Their laughter filled the room, bright and easy, every word and gesture woven with years of shared memories.
"You always make the best pancakes, Jane. I think it’s your secret ingredient—kindness."
"Well, they’re only this good when you’re here to share them, Sara." They clinked their mugs together, savoring the simple joy of the moment.
Sara and Jane wandered beneath the canopy, shoes crunching over gravel. Sara paused to admire a patch of wild daisies, while Jane snapped a picture, determined to capture every happy moment.
"Hang on, let’s get a selfie with these flowers. One for today, and one for all the days we might forget how much fun we have together."
"I could never forget, not with you by my side," Sara replied, her eyes shining with gratitude.
Jane pulled a bright yellow umbrella from her bag, unfurling it with a flourish. Sara tucked closer, their laughter echoing over the patter of rain.
"Only you would think to pack an umbrella on a sunny day,"
"Only you would make me want to," Jane replied, squeezing her friend’s hand as they waited for the shower to pass.
Sara grew quiet, tracing tiny circles on the wooden seat. Jane noticed, turning to her with gentle concern.
"Jane, I don’t say it enough, but I’m so grateful for you. You’ve always been there, no matter what. I don’t know what I’d do without you."
"You don’t have to say it, Sara. I already know. I care about you just as much," Jane replied, her voice soft but steady.
They paused at the crossroads, reluctant to part ways. Sara squeezed Jane's hand, promising to meet again tomorrow.
"Until tomorrow, and all the tomorrows after," Jane said, and together they walked into the soft glow of twilight, hearts full and spirits unbreakable.
