With a heart full of excitement and a chalk in hand, I began my teaching journey in India. Each day brought a new lesson, not just for my students but for me as well. The vibrant energy of the classroom was infectious, and I felt deeply connected to every eager face looking up at me. Their curiosity was my fuel, and their progress my reward.
A year after, Kuwait welcomed me with open arms. For eight years, I taught and learned from a diverse group of students, each day a blend of cultures and languages. The dream of teaching in Canada was always there, whispering in the background, urging me to explore new horizons. The classrooms here were filled with stories from around the world, and every moment was an opportunity to learn something new.
The moment I discovered the Internationally Trained Teacher's Program, my heart skipped a beat. Acceptance into the program felt like a beacon of opportunity, a chance to evolve and immerse myself in the inclusive classrooms of Canada. "This is it," I whispered to myself, feeling a surge of determination. The possibilities stretched out before me, like a map waiting to be explored.
From the start, the support from the Professional Studies team was unwavering. They answered every question, no matter how small or silly, and I felt a part of a community dedicated to my success. "You're not alone," they reminded me at every turn. Their encouragement was a compass, guiding me through the journey and keeping my spirits high.
The practicum placement was a revelation, perfectly aligning with my aspirations as an educator. It was tailored for me, a testament to the thoughtful planning of the program. "You’re the kindest teacher I’ve ever had, we love you," a student said during the practicum, and those words reaffirmed my path. Their affection was a mirror, reflecting the passion I poured into my teaching.
Exploring beyond the West Campus opened up a world of opportunities. The seminars, the hidden gems of the main campus, and the magical libraries enriched my experience beyond expectation. "I can only say, scan every QR code and attend every seminar, it adds to your resume," I advised fellow educators. Balancing my life across three time zones - Kuwait, India, and Canada was challenging, yet each moment was worth it.
To all aspiring teachers, believe in yourself and this journey. The ITT program will challenge you, but it will also nurture and transform you into the educator you’re meant to be. My journey from chalk to dreams is a testament to this truth. "If I could do it, so can you," "No matter the time zones, challenges, or doubts — if your heart is in it, your dream will find its way. Every great teacher was once a dreamer, and the ITT program and professional studies team didn’t just change where I teach — it changed who I am." - lots of love Neenu James
