JOEY, a boy with bright eyes and untidy hair, sits cross-legged with a notebook in his lap. He flips through colorful pages filled with drawings of coins and bills, his tongue sticking out in concentration. The room feels warm and safe, the perfect place for a new idea to spark.
"Today, I'm going to learn how to be smart with money," he declares, more to himself than anyone else.
JOEY tips the piggy bank over, letting coins clatter onto the bedspread in a silvery pile. He sorts them by size and color, giggling when a shiny quarter rolls away and hides under a sock.
"If I save these coins instead of spending them all on candy," he muses thoughtfully, "maybe I can buy something really cool, like the soccer ball I saw at the store."
JOEY glances at the toy catalog on the coffee table, tempted by a flashy robot on sale. His fingers twitch, but he remembers the soccer ball and the satisfaction of saving.
"Mom, do you think it's better to buy the robot now or save for the soccer ball?" he asks, his voice wavering with curiosity and self-doubt.
JOEY listens intently as his mom explains needs versus wants, using an apple and a candy bar as examples.
"Sometimes, saving means waiting for something even better," she says, smiling gently, "and learning to make good choices with your money makes you proud in the end."
JOEY grins as he draws a picture of himself kicking a soccer ball. He tucks the dollar bill away, feeling a new sense of accomplishment.
"Saving is kind of like building a dream, one coin at a time," he whispers, his eyes sparkling with excitement for tomorrow.
JOEY gazes at his savings, imagining the day he’ll finally buy the soccer ball. He feels wiser and more patient, ready to share what he’s learned with his friends.
"I can’t wait to tell everyone at school how saving up can make your wishes come true," he says, determination shining in his voice as a new adventure in money begins.
