Pelly sits amidst the chaos, her wild curls barely visible above the towers of clutter. She’s humming softly as she doodles in her notebook, ignoring the math worksheet buried somewhere in the mess. The teacher, Ms. Carter, paces at the front, trying to keep order.
"Pelly, have you finished your homework this time?"
"I think I left it... somewhere in here," Pelly replies, waving vaguely at the chaos. Several students stifle giggles, while Ms. Carter sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose.
As the clock starts, Pelly flies through the test, her mind sharp and focused despite her messy surroundings. Other students labor over their answers, but Pelly finishes early, doodling tiny rockets in the margins. Ms. Carter watches, astonished as she collects the papers.
"How is it possible?" Ms. Carter murmurs to herself, shaking her head in disbelief. She remembers every missed homework, every time Pelly distracted the class, yet the test scores are always flawless. She begins to wonder if there’s more to Pelly than meets the eye.
"Pelly, we’re going to try some puzzles together. Just do your best and have fun," Mr. Grant says warmly. Pelly lights up, eager for the challenge, and soon the room fills with laughter and excited chatter as she breezes through each task.
"Pelly, you’re officially part of the gifted program. I knew there was something special about you,"
"Does this mean I can do more puzzles and fewer worksheets?" Pelly asks, eyes shining with hope.
"We’ll see, but I think we can find a way to keep both your mind and your desk busy," Ms. Carter laughs, her annoyance replaced by pride as they head out together, ready for new adventures.
