Liliana sat cross-legged on her bed, her eyes scanning the checklist in her hand. She reached for her backpack, her fingers brushing against the soft fabric as she unzipped it and peered inside. "Okay, baking soda... check. Vinegar... check," she murmured to herself. Today was the day of the science fair, and she could feel the excitement bubbling inside her like a pot ready to overflow.
Liliana placed her project supplies on the kitchen table, her mind racing with thoughts of the day ahead. She adjusted the neatly printed label on her volcano model, careful not to smudge it. "I hope Ms. Sutton likes it," she thought aloud, her voice tinged with a mix of hope and anxiety.
Liliana clutched her backpack straps tightly, her heart racing with every step closer to school. Her mind danced with scenarios of the fair, the anticipation almost tangible. Her best friend, Emma, caught up with her, her curly hair bouncing with each step. "Are you ready for the big day?" she asked, grinning from ear to ear.
"As ready as I'll ever be," Liliana replied, trying to match her friend's enthusiasm.
Liliana and Emma set up their tables side by side, each displaying their projects proudly. Ms. Sutton strolled through the aisles, her eyes alight with curiosity as she examined each project. "Such creativity!" she exclaimed at one point, her voice carrying across the room.
Liliana's heart skipped a beat as Ms. Sutton approached her table, her gaze lingering on the carefully constructed volcano.
Liliana took a deep breath, her hands steadying as she began her presentation. "This is a model of a volcano. When I add the vinegar to the baking soda, it will create a chemical reaction," she explained, her voice gaining strength with each word.
Ms. Sutton nodded, her expression one of genuine interest. "Let's see it in action, shall we?" she encouraged, her smile reassuring.
As the vinegar met the baking soda, the volcano erupted in a fizzy cascade, drawing gasps and applause from the onlookers. Liliana beamed with pride, the earlier nerves dissolving into triumph. Ms. Sutton clapped, her eyes twinkling.
"Well done, Liliana! That was fantastic," she praised, and Liliana couldn't help but smile wider, the weight of the morning's anticipation now a buoyant joy.
