On a sunny morning, a tiny, green egg rests on a leaf. The garden is quiet and full of fresh smells. Suddenly, the egg cracks open, and out comes a small, very hungry caterpillar. He looks around, eager to find something to eat.
On Monday, the hungry caterpillar finds one red apple. The apple is big and juicy. He takes a big bite and says, "I am still hungry!" The bright red apple stands out against the green leaves, and the caterpillar crawls on, searching for more food.
On Tuesday, the caterpillar finds two sweet, yellow pears. He eats them both quickly. "I am still hungry!" he says, looking up at the tall trees. The pears leave a trail of juice, and the caterpillar wiggles away.
On Wednesday, the caterpillar munches three juicy plums. He enjoys the soft, purple fruit. "I am still hungry!" he says, rubbing his little belly. The plums are gone, but the caterpillar keeps moving.
On Thursday, the caterpillar eats four round, orange oranges. He chews and chews, but when he is finished, he says, "I am still hungry!" The oranges smell sweet, and the caterpillar crawls ahead.
On Friday, the caterpillar finds five red strawberries. He eats every one. After eating, he says, "I am still hungry!" The strawberries are sweet, and the caterpillar is now much bigger.
On Saturday, the caterpillar eats lots and lots of food. He eats cake, ice cream, cheese, and more! His tummy feels very full. "Oh no! My stomach hurts!" he says, curling up under a leaf.
On Sunday, the caterpillar eats just one nice, green leaf. He feels much better. After eating, he feels very sleepy and makes a small house, called a cocoon, around himself. The garden is quiet as he rests inside.
After many days, the cocoon breaks open. Out comes a beautiful butterfly with colorful wings. The butterfly flies around the garden, happy and free. Now, the very hungry caterpillar is a lovely butterfly!
