The black and white zebra, the black and white badger, and the black and white panda were taking a gentle walk together, enjoying the soft breeze and the rustling leaves. Their matching black-and-white coats almost blended with the moonlit shadows, and they laughed as they followed the winding path through the grove. Then all at once, a pale figure drifted behind a tree, and the happy feeling of the night vanished like a candle blown out.
"Did you see that floating thing near the stump, because I know I saw it and it looked like a ghost watching us from the dark,"
The black and white badger froze, ears twitching, while the black and white panda clutched at a nearby branch with trembling paws. The figure suddenly moved again, and all three friends gasped as it seemed to glide toward them through the darkness.
"It is coming closer, and I do not want to stay here one more second because this is the scariest night of my life,"
The black and white zebra, the black and white badger, and the black and white panda ran for their lives, their hearts thudding as loudly as drums. They did not look back, because every whisper of wind sounded like the ghost chasing after them. At last they spotted Geo Umizoomi near a bright little roadside sign, calm and alert beneath the glow of a streetlamp.
"Geo Umizoomi, you have to help us right now because a scary ghost appeared in the grove and it was floating and following us through the trees,"
Geo Umizoomi listened carefully, his face serious but kind, as the three friends spoke over one another in frightened bursts. He looked toward the grove, then back at them, and decided that the only way to solve the mystery was to go see it for himself.
"Do not worry, I will help all of you, and we are going to find out whether this is really a ghost or something else hiding in the dark,"
The black and white panda still shook a little, but Geo Umizoomi’s calm voice made the night seem less terrifying.
Step by careful step, Geo Umizoomi led the black and white zebra, the black and white badger, and the black and white panda back to the place where they had seen the ghost. The white shape rose and dipped again, and for one tense moment even the air seemed to stop moving. Then Geo Umizoomi noticed a pair of shoes beneath the fluttering white cloth and narrowed his eyes with sudden understanding.
"That is not a ghost at all, because ghosts do not wear shoes, and I think someone is hiding under that sheet trying to scare everyone,"
Geo Umizoomi stepped forward and gently pulled the sheet aside, revealing a person underneath who looked embarrassed to be discovered. The black and white zebra, the black and white badger, and the black and white panda stared in surprise, their fear melting into relief. It had been someone all along, pretending to be a ghost in the dark grove.
"I was so scared, but now I see it was only a trick, and I am very glad we asked Geo Umizoomi for help instead of staying afraid,"
The black and white badger let out a long breath, and the black and white panda even laughed a little at how different the grove looked now that the truth was known. Geo Umizoomi reminded them that strange things can seem scarier in the dark, but courage and careful thinking can uncover the truth. Together they walked home feeling safe, proud, and much braver than before.
"Whenever something seems frightening, remember that looking closely and helping each other can turn a scary mystery into something understandable,"
