Milli, a brave little girl with pattern powers, skipped along the sidewalk with a smile.
Geo, clever and calm, rolled beside her while looking at the darkening sky.
Bot, their friendly robot friend, blinked his green lights and listened to the sounds of the city becoming quieter.
"It was such a fun day, but wow, it got dark so fast, and everything looks a little different at night when the shadows get longer and the streets feel extra quiet,"
"I know what you mean, because even the same buildings look mysterious when the sun goes down and the wind starts making strange noises around the corners,"
Bot stopped moving and tilted his head toward the sound.
"My sensors are picking up an unusual noise, and I do not like it one bit, because it sounds spooky and floaty and not at all like a normal nighttime sound in the city,"
Milli grabbed the edge of her dress and stared at the park.
Then, from behind the gate, a glowing white shape slowly floated upward, wavering in the mist like a sheet in the wind.
Geo gasped and rolled backward.
"That has to be a ghost, and I am not staying here long enough to find out whether it wants to say hello or chase us all the way across Umi City,"
"Run, run, run, because that ghost is coming right toward us and I do not want to be anywhere near a floating spooky thing in the dark tonight,"
Bot spun his arms nervously as all three friends turned and ran for their lives down the sidewalk.
"Emergency running mode activated, because this is absolutely the correct time to move very fast and ask questions much later when we are somewhere bright and safe,"
Milli looked over her shoulder and saw the white shape still bobbing after them in the distance.
"It is still there, and that makes this even scarier, so do not stop, do not slow down, and please tell me someone knows a place with lots of lights and no ghosts,"
Geo pointed ahead toward a glowing bakery at the corner and led the way.
"Let us stay low and quiet for a second, because if that really is a ghost, maybe it will float right past us and go haunt some other part of the city instead,"
Bot peeked carefully around the boxes, his lights dimmed to tiny dots.
The white figure drifted closer, wobbling strangely, and now the moaning sounded less spooky and more like someone struggling in the wind.
Milli frowned, her fear mixing with curiosity as she listened more carefully.
"Wait a minute, that is not a ghost at all, it is just a sheet floating on balloons, and that spooky noise is coming from a toy speaker, so we ran all that way from something silly,"
Geo slowly rolled forward and laughed in relief.
"I cannot believe it scared us so badly, but in the dark with the mist and the wind, it really did look like a real ghost chasing us through the city,"
"Fear level decreasing rapidly, and I would like to officially report that sheets should not be allowed to fly around at night pretending to be haunted,"
Milli laughed until her fear melted away.
Bot helped untangle the sheet, while Geo switched off the noisy toy speaker.
"Next time we hear a spooky sound in the dark, let us remember to be careful but also look closely, because sometimes the scariest things turn out to be the silliest,"
"That is true, and even though we ran for our lives tonight, at least now we have a wild story to tell about the ghost that was not a ghost at all,"
