Alex stands at the counter, whisking eggs into a creamy batter, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. Lila sits at the breakfast table nearby, her nose buried in a book, but she peeks over the pages each time a sweet aroma wafts her way.
"You know, Lila, you can’t hide behind that book forever. I need an official taste tester for my latest dessert masterpiece," Alex calls out, sliding a tray of chocolate éclairs into the oven. Lila lowers her book, her curiosity piqued.
Lila wanders over, eyeing the glossy éclairs piped with cream. Alex hands her one with a flourish.
"I suppose I do owe you for helping with my math homework," Lila teases, taking a generous bite. The pastry melts in her mouth, the sweetness making her eyes light up. Alex grins, pleased with her reaction.
Every evening, Alex presents a new creation: strawberry pavlova, lemon meringue pie, gooey cinnamon rolls. Lila sits eagerly at the table, anticipation sparkling in her gaze. The ritual becomes their shared secret, laughter and stories sweetening the air as much as the confections.
"You have to try the cheesecake tonight. I think I finally perfected the crust," Alex says, sliding a thick slice onto Lila's plate.
Lila giggles, patting her stomach. Alex notices her contented expression and the way she lingers over each bite.
"You know, Alex, I think your desserts are starting to have an effect on me. I might need to start jogging after all these treats!" Lila laughs, but her tone is light and teasing. Alex chuckles too, pride in his baking skills evident.
Alex nudges Lila, his voice turning sincere.
"I’m glad we’ve been able to spend so much time together lately. Baking with you has been the highlight of my summer," he confides. Lila smiles, reaching for another macaron, her eyes shining with affection.
Lila leans her head on Alex's shoulder, feeling full in every sense. Their shared evenings become cherished memories, each dessert a symbol of their bond and the sweetness of sibling love.
