Sophie burst into the backyard waving a colorful flyer, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Timmy, look! It’s the Climate Clock Fair! Everyone at school is talking about it!" Timmy took the flyer, squinting at the vibrant illustration of a grand clock with bold letters declaring: “THE CLIMATE CLOCK: ONLY 5 YEARS LEFT TO SAVE THE PLANET!” He tilted his head in confusion. "That’s strange," he mused. "Last year, they said we only had ten years left. How did it change so fast?" Sophie shrugged, unfazed. "I don’t know, but they’re giving out free ice cream at the fair!" The mention of ice cream was enough to spark Timmy's interest, and without hesitation, he grabbed his cap. "Let’s go!"
In the center stood the towering Climate Clock, its hands ticking ominously towards an uncertain future. A man with a megaphone shouted urgent warnings to passersby. Timmy and Sophie stood in awe, taking in the bustling scene. "Sophie, something doesn’t feel right," Timmy said thoughtfully. "If it’s so serious, why are they selling so much stuff?" He pointed to the stalls brimming with "Save the Planet" merchandise. "Let’s find out!" Sophie replied with determination as they made their way to a booth labeled "Ask the Experts."
Timmy raised his hand politely. "Excuse me, but how do we know the Climate Clock is right?" The woman adjusted her glasses with a measured smile. "Good question, young man! Scientists make predictions based on models." Sophie chimed in with curiosity. "What’s a model?" The woman explained patiently, "It’s like guessing what might happen based on information we have now." Timmy frowned. "But guesses can be wrong, right?" The woman hesitated before replying. "Well... sometimes. But we have to act just in case!"
Timmy and Sophie listened intently as one man exclaimed, "But the data doesn’t add up! Sea levels aren’t rising as fast as they said!" Another replied with urgency, "If we don’t keep the message scary, no one will listen!" Timmy's eyes widened in disbelief. "Sophie, did you hear that?" Sophie nodded, her face set in determination. "They’re making it sound worse on purpose!"
Timmy broke the silence. "It’s important to take care of the Earth, but we should ask questions and not believe everything we’re told." Sophie grinned at her friend. "Yeah! Next time, let’s bring a notebook and write down more questions." With their spirits lifted by a sense of purpose, the two friends resolved to uncover more mysteries of the world, ready to ignite genuine change starting from their school.
