Melissa stretched her arms above her head as she woke, blinking sleepily at the sunlight dancing on her walls. She could hear the sound of birds chirping outside and the soft footsteps of Daddy coming down the hallway. "Daddy, are you awake?" she called, her voice small and eager. "Of course, little one. Time to start our big day," came the warm reply as his tall figure appeared in the doorway.
Melissa watched as Daddy flipped pancakes with his large, steady hands. She noticed how easily those hands gripped the spatula—so much bigger than her own tiny fingers. "Daddy, why are your hands so big?" she asked, curiosity sparkling in her eyes. "These hands? They’re just right for helping you," Daddy replied with a gentle laugh, handing her a plate stacked high with fluffy pancakes.
Melissa knelt beside her broken robot, lips trembling. Daddy sat cross-legged next to her, his big hands careful and patient as he sorted the tiny screws. "Let’s see if we can fix this, together," he said, placing the robot’s arm gently in her palm. "Your hands can fix anything, Daddy," she whispered, watching in awe as the robot sprang to life with a happy whirr.
Daddy knelt in the garden, showing Melissa how to cradle a tiny seed in her palm. His hands scooped rich soil, steady and sure, making a perfect little home for the seed. "These hands help things grow, just like you," he said softly. Melissa pressed her small hand into his, grinning as they planted hope together in the earth.
Melissa huddled under her blankets, heart pounding with each boom of thunder. Suddenly, Daddy's big hands scooped her up, strong arms settling her safely in his lap. "Shh, I’m right here. My hands will keep you safe," he whispered, his voice a warm blanket against the storm. "I feel braver when you’re holding me, Daddy," Melissa murmured, clutching his thumb with all her might.
Melissa gazed at Daddy as he tucked her in, his hands tenderly smoothing her hair. She thought of all the things those hands had done—fixing, planting, hugging her tight when she was scared. "Daddy, your hands are the safest place in the world," she whispered sleepily. "And they’ll always be here for you, Melissa," Daddy promised, holding her close until she drifted peacefully to sleep.
