Eli, his blond hair catching the golden light, shoulders a backpack as he scans the bustling campsite. Next to him, Jamie—black-haired with a spray of freckles over his nose—grins shyly, tugging his sleeping bag closer. The counselors assign them to the same tent, and their eyes meet with an unspoken excitement.
Eli unrolls his bag beside Jamie, who fidgets nervously with his flashlight. "Do you think we'll see any shooting stars?" Eli smiles, settling in. "Only if we stay up and keep watch together," he replies, and they laugh, voices soft amid the distant hum of crickets.
Jamie hesitates at the shore, toes curled in cool sand. Eli wades in first, beckoning with a wide grin. "Come on, it's not cold at all!" Jamie relents, and soon they’re swimming side by side, laughter bubbling up as they race each other across the shimmering surface.
Jamie traces patterns on the canvas, voice barely above a whisper. "I’ve never felt like I fit in, not really," he admits. Eli reaches out, placing a reassuring hand on Jamie’s arm. "With me, you do," Eli says, and the space between them shrinks, their trust growing deeper.
Eli and Jamie huddle close, sharing whispered dreams and gentle hugs. "I'm glad we're together," Jamie murmurs, his freckles lit by the dim lantern. "Me too," Eli replies, their hands entwined beneath the covers. The storm outside fades into a comforting lullaby.
They smile sleepily at each other, feeling the warmth of closeness. "Best camp ever," Eli whispers, cheeks flushed. Jamie leans in, their foreheads touching, and the promise of new love glows between them. The woods outside stir with possibility, and the day ahead feels bright with hope.
