Holden bounced in the backseat, his excitement barely contained. His brown eyes sparkled as they darted between the scenery flashing by.
Lilly, his sister, adjusted her pink bow and grinned, sharing in the anticipation of the weekend ahead.
Papa chuckled from the driver’s seat, his thick glasses slipping down his nose as Grandma expertly navigated the familiar roads.
"First stop, Great Grandpa Bill's," she announced.
Great Grandpa Bill welcomed them with open arms, his blue eyes twinkling behind wire-rimmed glasses.
"You two are getting so big!" he exclaimed, offering each child a warm chocolate chip cookie.
Holden took a large bite, savoring the rich, gooey chocolate, while Lilly giggled at the crumbs sticking to her brother's face.
Holden pressed his nose against a glass display, mesmerized by the space suits and rocket models.
Lilly read every information plaque, her curiosity insatiable.
"Did you know astronauts wear special diapers?" she whispered, causing Holden to giggle uncontrollably.
Papa told silly jokes as Grandma sang along to oldies on the radio during the road trip to Columbus. Upon arrival, Holden and Lilly rushed to the pool, their excitement palpable.
They splashed and played until their fingers were wrinkled, their laughter resonating through the indoor pool area.
Uncle Bryson joined them the next morning, his jovial presence and short beard making him instantly recognizable.
JJ, with his curly brown hair, toddled along excitedly as Papa led them to the Little Diggers place.
Meanwhile, Grandma took Lilly to meet Aunt Julia and Aunt Sheila.
"Let's get you a sparkly manicure," suggested Aunt Sheila, her bright blue eyes matching the polish Lilly chose.
Everyone gathered at Taco Belle for lunch, sharing stories and laughter. JJ attempted to eat his taco with great enthusiasm, bits of it tumbling onto the table, which made everyone smile.
"He's got a unique technique," joked Uncle Bryson.
The family explored COSI, where interactive exhibits captivated the children for hours.
Holden was particularly fascinated by the lions at the zoo the next day, while Lilly adored the butterfly garden, her eyes following the fluttering wings with delight.
As they drove home, Holden and Lilly were fast asleep in the backseat, their hands intertwined, dreaming of their incredible adventure.
"We made some good memories this weekend," Grandma said, squeezing Papa's hand.
"Indeed we did," he replied, a content smile on his face.
