Dominic, a lively eleven-year-old with tousled brown hair and bright eyes, sat at the back of the room, scribbling in his notebook. He was known among his classmates by the unfortunate nickname, "Booty Scratcher," a moniker he acquired after an embarrassing incident during gym class. Despite the teasing, he held his head high and focused on his studies.
Mia, a kind-hearted girl with long, curly hair, noticed Dominic sitting alone on a bench, his usual spot during breaks. Her friends were part of the group teasing him, but she felt a pang of empathy. "Hey, Oliver, want to join us?" she called out, waving him over.
Lucas, the class clown with a mischievous grin, approached Dominic with a soccer ball in hand. "How about a game, Booty— I mean, Dominic?" he offered, trying to amend his earlier teasing. Dhominic esitated, then nodded, a smile breaking through his usual reserved demeanor.
Mia and Lucas walked alongside Dominc towards the school gate. "You know, you're really good at soccer," Mia complimented. "Yeah, maybe we should team up for the next match," Lucas added. Dominic eamed, feeling a warmth he hadn't felt in a long time.
Dominic felt a sense of belonging as he walked with his new friends. The nickname "Booty Scratcher" seemed to fade into the background, replaced by the laughter and camaraderie he now shared with Mia and Lucas. "Thanks for today," he said softly, appreciating their kindness.
Mia and Lucas waved goodbye to Dominic as he headed towards the bus stop. "See you tomorrow!" Mia called. "Yeah, and don't forget to bring your game face," Lucas joked. Oliver waved back, a new spring in his step as he looked forward to the day ahead.
