Eli, a small orphan with tangled hair and wide, curious eyes, crouched at the mouth of the crevice. The silence of the city pressed in around him, broken only by his own hesitant breaths. With trembling hands, he slipped through the opening, drawn by the mysterious luminescence within.
Eli wandered deeper, his footsteps echoing on the slick, resinous floor. He stared in disbelief at the rows of suspended children, their faces serene, wrapped in shimmering filaments. His heart pounded as a realization struck him—these were children from his city, missing, forgotten, and now entombed in alien silk.
Suddenly, two crevonians—white-skinned, bee-like humanoids with multifaceted eyes—emerged from the darkness, their movements swift and deliberate. Before Eli could scream, they seized him, their grasp gentle yet inescapable. He struggled, but their strength was immense; he was lifted off the ground, carried deeper into the hive.
The crevonians set Eli upon the Brood Mother ’s soft, glowing abdomen. Her mandibles clicked in a rhythm that resonated in his bones. A strange, soothing voice curled around his mind, promising peace, freedom from hunger and fear, a place among her eternal brood. "Little one, let go of your worries. Join us, and you will never be alone again,"
Eli felt the world blur as the Brood Mother ’s words sank into his thoughts. The resinous threads wrapped him, cool and fragrant, encasing him in a cocoon just like the others. The hive’s song grew louder, filling him with warmth as his consciousness faded into dreams of honeyed skies and flight.
Crevis—the name that now filled his mind—nestled into the warmth of the Brood Mother, feeling her pride radiate through the hive. He watched as the other children-turned-larvae were nurtured, their laughter echoing in the shared mind of the brood.
Crevonis soared above the city, free of old fears and loneliness. The world below shimmered with possibility as he and his new siblings danced through the air, their song a promise of unity and belonging among the stars.
