It was my first visit to the dental hygienist, and I could feel a twinge of anxiety bubbling within me. The reception area was quiet, save for the distant murmur of the radio playing a soothing tune. I sat down, my fingers nervously tapping against the armrest of the plush chair, while my eyes wandered over the array of dental brochures neatly arranged on the table.
Suraj, the bubbly dental hygienist, walked in with an infectious smile that instantly eased some of my nerves. His voice was cheerful as he greeted me and guided me to the dental chair. "Good morning! You're going to be just fine today," he assured, as he adjusted the headrest to ensure I was comfortable. "It's perfectly normal to feel a bit anxious, but I'll talk you through everything, alright?"
I nodded, trying to relax as Suraj began explaining the process. He donned his gloves with a snap and picked up a small, round mirror. "First, we'll have a look around. It's just a quick check-up to make sure everything's in order," he said. His voice was soothing, and I could feel myself calming down a bit, the tension in my shoulders slowly easing away.
Suraj worked with precision, his movements quick yet gentle. I watched as he skillfully maneuvered the tools, explaining each step in detail. "This might feel a little strange, but it's just a small cleaning," he mentioned while holding a small, whirring device.
"So, do you have any fun plans for the weekend?" Suraj asked, his tone conversational, as he worked. Despite the tools in my mouth, I managed a garbled response about visiting family. He chuckled, "That's great! Family time is always special," he replied, his friendly banter making the whole experience surprisingly pleasant.
As the appointment concluded, Suraj gave me a reassuring nod. "All done! You did wonderfully. Keep up with your brushing and flossing, and you'll be just fine," he said with a wink. I left the clinic feeling lighter, the earlier anxiety replaced with a sense of accomplishment and relief.
